Convert a run’s time and distance into a pace — minutes per mile or km. Divide total time by distance, and format the decimal result as mm:ss with TEXT.
The example
50 minutes for 6.2 miles.
| A | B | |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Item | Value |
| 2 | 50 min ÷ 6.2 | — |
| 3 | Pace | → 8:04 /mi |
The formula
The formula:
How it works
How it works:
- Divide total minutes by distance for decimal minutes per mile.
- Divide by 1440 (minutes per day) to get a time serial, then
TEXT(…, "m:ss")formats it. - For finish time from a target pace:
pace_per_mile × race_miles. - Swap miles for km to work in metric — the math is identical.

Pitfalls & errors
Divide by 1440. Convert minutes to a day fraction before TEXT formatting.
Use real time values. If time is already h:mm:ss, multiply by 1440 to get minutes first.
Units match. Miles with min/mile, km with min/km — don’t mix.
