The Excel PRODUCT function multiplies all the numbers you give it — the multiplication counterpart of SUM, handy when you'd otherwise chain many * operators.
Syntax
| Argument | Description | |
|---|---|---|
number1 | Required | The first number, cell reference, or range to multiply. |
number2, ... | Optional | Up to 254 additional numbers or ranges. All are multiplied together. |
How to use it
PRODUCT multiplies every argument together. It accepts loose numbers, ranges, and array constants, just like SUM.
Inside a referenced range, text and blank cells are ignored. Note that an empty range or a range of all-text returns 0, so confirm your inputs are numeric.
SUMPRODUCT vs PRODUCT: PRODUCT multiplies its arguments into one number; SUMPRODUCT multiplies corresponding elements of several arrays and then sums those products.
